Waipu is known for its position on the beautiful coastline of Bream Bay. A few kilometres from Waipu is Uretiti beach where you can often find you have the beach to yourself. South of the Waipu River Mouth is Waipu Cove, a great place for kids, picnics, swimming and surfing. A short stroll over the hill is the privacy of Shelly Beach.
Waipu Cove is the start of the Waipu to Langs Beach walk, via Ding Bay and the breathtaking pancake rocks. You can paddle a kayak from the Waipu boat club out towards Johnsons Point, a great place for bird-watching. If you prefer bush to beach, you can venture inland to Piroa falls on the north side of the Brynderwyns.
Along with being blessed with breathtaking natural scenery, Waipu is also a town full of culture and historical significance. A visit to the UNESCO heritage listed Waipu Museum is a must do.
